Boston City scored a late winner to edge a friendly match 2-1 against Assumption College in Worcester, Mass.

The match was the first of a series of community-based offseason activities, which include appearances at local events, interacting with youth soccer organizations and assisting local colleges by providing them with competitive scrimmage action.

Guest midfielder John Dumbuya sealed victory in the 86th minute as he played a neat one-two with Valerio Silva having raced on to a probing through ball from defender Gabriel De Souza, and slotted his finish inside the left hand post. Dumbuya scored three goals for Greater Lowell United last season, including one against the Lions in the final game of the campaign, which was nominated for the National Premier Soccer League goal of the season award.

Striker Darlan Rocha had earned Boston City a slim lead a minute before halftime with a 25-yard free kick from out wide on the left that barely crossed the goal line having bounced down off the cross bar. The Greyhounds leveled the entertaining friendly with 15 minutes remaining when Sarandon Dias saw his penalty, awarded for a handball by Vilbrun St Louis, saved by visiting keeper Vitor Scariot, but buried the rebound.

Boston City welcomed guest players Kevin Herrera and Jadson alongside Bruno Bonicontro to a midfield missing regular starters captain Ronaldo Vieira, top scorers Michael Bustamante and Homero Morais and Egberto Da Silva, while Dumbuya made a second half appearance. Pedro Da Silva partnered Yaw Addow and Rocha up front having returned from a trial with Danish club Brabrand.
