Boston City FC and owner Renato Valentim have been honored by Focus Boston with a business award for their activity in the local community.
Presented by LATAM Airlines and Globo, Renato and head coach and president Palhinha received the award at the Dante Alighieri Society in Cambridge on Friday afternoon at a gathering of local business and entrepreneurs. New England-based supporters groups of Brazilian soccer clubs and representatives of the Ironsides Crew group that champions Boston City FC were also present.
“We are delighted that an international organization as prestigious as Boston Focus has recognized our contribution to the community here in Greater Boston,” said Renato. “We are building a club that has a long-term sustainable future, which will continue to prioritize integrating with local people and businesses as we grow.”
Renato Valentim and Boston City FC have been honored previously for work in soccer and the community. Last year, Renato was recognized by his home city of Manhuaçu and the state of Minas Gerais with two awards as a result of his contributions to the local community.
He was named Cidadao Benemerito – the citizen of the year – as one of only two recipients, voted on by the city councilors and presented by the mayor of Manhuaçu. He received the Premio do esporte Mineiro gold medal from the state of Minas Gerais on behalf of Boston City FC, to recognize the club’s exchanges between the United States and Brazil.
Boston City FC is in National Premier Soccer League action this Saturday, June 9, at 7pm at home to Hartford City FC at Brother Gilbert Stadium in Malden, MA.
