Boston City FC Under 20s 3 Worcester Warriors 1
Boston City FC Under 20s marked the team’s Bay State Soccer League (BSSL) debut with a 3-1 home win over Worcester Warriors highlighted by a hat-trick from forward Rafael Desouza, pictured scoring the U20s’ first-ever goal.
The young Lions went ahead after 38 minutes, only to concede an equalizer two minutes before the break, then coach Cesar Deossa’s side dictated the pace of the second half and scored twice within eleven minutes of the restart to seal a deserved win.
The Warriors should have taken a fifth minute lead when a Boston City defensive error allowed Youssouf Kone a clear run at goal, but the forward fired across the face of the target.
Desouza saw a shot pushed around the post by the visiting keeper at the other end three minutes later and then glanced a header wide from a corner as the teams shared possession during the first 45 minutes.
It was inevitably Desouza who opened the scoring seven minutes before halftime when he beat the previously effective Warriors offside trap to latch on to a through ball from Emanuel Nunes and finished decisively.
The Lions should have taken that slim lead into the interval but another defensive giveaway gifted Kone a clear chance and this time he beat Wouter Dronkers at the near post to level the scores.
Boston City FC U20s opened the second half confidently and regained the lead after 52 minutes when Adrian Marques played a defense-splitting pass to Samuel Deossa wide of the left and his first-time low cross was converted by Desouza for his second goal of the match.
Four minutes later, Desouza capitalized on a loose ball 20 yards from goal and struck a confident finish from distance to seal his hat-trick and three points for the hosts.
