Boston City FC II has been drawn away from home to Safira FC in the second qualifying round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The two teams, who both have strong ties to the local Brazilian community, have never met before and will clash at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville at 7pm on Saturday, October 20.

On Sunday, the Lions of the Bay State Soccer league (BSSL) saw off the challenge of Juve Pro Soccer 1-0 at home through Jhonata Batista’s second half goal, in a first qualifying match full of incident. Reigning United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) Northeast Conference Patriot Division champions Safira produced an impressive 3-1 home win over Mass United in the last round.

Boston City FC II matches, which are presented by Boston-based recruiting firm The Gaisce Group, have seen the Lions kick off the second half of the BSSL season with three victories, winning 7-0, 4-0 and 3-2. They currently sit in third place, two points off the two promotion places, with a record of 7-3-1. Safira has an impressive track record of winning championships in local, national amateur and futsal competitions.

Defenders Matt Callahan and Jadson Leite are expected to be suspended for the game against Safira having both received red cards in the previous round.
