Experienced defender Paulo Henrique has returned to Boston City FC to bolster the Lions’ back line before the second match of the new National Premier Soccer League season.
Henrique won All-NPSL honors after the 2017 season, capping an outstanding first campaign with the Lions that saw him produce a string of consistent performances before injury curtailed his contribution at the end. He still managed to total 792 minutes and captained the team.
“Paulo was an important part of our success as we reached the playoffs last season and it is great to welcome him back,” said Boston City FC coach Palhinha. “He brings leadership, a calm presence in defense and experience at the very highest level that is clear when you see him in action. He can help us win games and help to develop the younger players around him.”
Henrique, a former Santos and Atlético Goianese defender, was a member of the same 2009 Santos squad as Brazilian superstar Neymar, making several appearances in the Campeonato Brasileiro, Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brazil, scoring one goal. He also played alongside Brazil international and current Seville midfielder Ganso, while with Santos.
Henrique will be reunited with familiar defensive partners Gabriel De Souza, Marcelo Cunha, Michael Rincon and Jadson Liete when the Lions return to NPSL action and visit TSF at DePaul Catholic High School in Wayne New Jersey on Sunday, May 20, kickoff 1pm. The match sees Boston City looking to bounce back from an opening day 4-0 home defeat to the New York Cosmos, while TSF is in action for the first time.
Boston City’s campaign then continues on the road at New York Athletic Club on May 27, before the visit of the famous Brooklyn Italians to Malden Catholic at 6pm on Sunday, June 3. Individual tickets and season tickets are available: http://www.bostoncityfc.com/news/tickets/.
