It rained, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm or determination of almost 50 players who turned out for the first Boston City FC offseason open tryouts, presented by The Gaisce Group.

Coaches Palhinha, Cesar Deossa, Andre Mendes, Dan D’Amico and Roberto Mazzinghy all ran the rule over the group during a series of scrimmages, seeking players for the upcoming Bay State Soccer League season and the 2019 National Premier Soccer League campaign.

The Lions will resume the 2018 BSSL season this coming Saturday at 6pm against SR Young Boys at Daly Field in Brighton, with several of the successful trialists expected to be in the lineup. Boston City’s second team currently sits in midtable in seventh place in Division 3 North with a 4-3-1 record and 13 points, one point behind this week’s visitors.

Those who attended Saturday’s trials came from the New England states and New York and as far afield as Colorado and Virginia. They boast experience in the NPSL, UPSL and BSSL and with the New England Revolution Academy.

All Boston City FC offseason tryouts are presented by Boston-based recruitment firm The Gaisce Group, which is also the presenting sponsor of the club’s BSSL matches.
