Yaw saw action in four matches in 2018, coming off the bench each time at home to Brooklyn, Hartford and Seacoast and away to Elm City.
Yaw played in five of the first six matches of the 2017 season, missing one through injury, and returned for another appearance in June, totaling 229 minutes, but did not add to the three goals scored in 2016. He played in the U.S. Open Cup win away to Western Mass Pioneers.
Yaw played in 12 games in the 2016 NPSL season, logging 445 minutes, with a mid-season injury keeping him out of the team briefly. He scored the historic first goal in club history to take a 1-0 lead at home to New York Cosmos B on May 1 and then received two yellow cards.
A firm fan-favorite, Yaw regularly held social media competition for supporters to win his two allocated tickets to home games and could often be found cheering along with the Ironsides Crew when not in the lineup. He scored three goals in 2016, also finding the target in a 2-1 win at Seacoast United Mariners, and the crucial equalizing goal when coming off the bench in a 3-2 victory at Kingston Stockade. He earned the nickname ‘super sub’ when he was used as a second half weapon as the Lions went on a nine-game unbeaten streak.
Yaw played with youth teams in his native Ghana before moving to the United States as a youngster. He played for two seasons in the NPSL with Greater Lowell United, scoring 5 goals, and suffered a major injury against eventual champions New York Cosmos B when an elbow to his face resulted in 11 inner and 10 outer stitches across his eyebrow. He came to Boston City FC through the club’s tryouts.
