With the conclusion of the club’s 2018 NPSL season, Boston City FC has set out to address the immediate improvement of its squad and will hold the first in a series of open tryouts next month.
Head coach Palhinha and his assistants will conduct the tryouts at Daly Field in Brighton on Saturday, August 18, from 4pm to 7pm (please note revised time from original announcement), as the Lions search for players with the potential to compete with the first team in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), the second squad in the Bay State Soccer League (BSSL) and the U.S. Open Cup. Boston City fields a BSSL team that will resume the 2018 campaign on August 25, following a short summer break.
Players wishing to join the tryouts must register and complete payment at the Boston City FC website: http://www.bostoncityfc.com/aug-tryout/. All tryouts participants must be aged 18 or older.
“The tryouts have been a great source of talent for us in the past and we have unearthed some very good players that have featured in our first team,” said coach Palhinha. “With the growth of our club during the past three years, both here and in Brazil, we have the benefit of seeing players earlier in the cycle that could contribute immediately to our club.”
Open tryouts have given opportunities to several first team regulars including 2016 top scorer Homero Morais, defender Marcelo Cunha who is the club’s appearances leader, and 2017 regional all-NPSL selection midfielder Michael Rincon (pictured).
