Boston City FC return to Revere tonight, Sunday, June 9, to complete a double-header of National Premier Soccer League action against the Rhode Island Reds.
The Lions and Reds clash at 6pm at Harry Della Russo Stadium, two days after the Reds edged a close match 3-2 at Johnston High School in Providence when the Lions squandered a two-goal lead. Boston City had been unbeaten in five previous meetings against their rivals, who got the upper hand for the first time in four seasons and the Lions’ record is now won 3, lost 1, drew 2.

While the Lions (1-6-2) look to bounce back from three straight defeats, the Reds (1-4-1) look to build on their first win of the campaign. Again likely to be missing from the Reds line up is former Boston City player of the year and all-time top scorer Isaac Nana Addai, who suffered a back injury in a car crash three weeks ago. Addai, who was the NPSL Golden Ball (MVP) and Golden Boot (top scorer) for the Reds in 2016, returned to Rhode Island this offseason after two years in Boston.
The Lions are without joint-top scorer John Dumbuya but hope four-goal Jhonata Batista has recovered from an injury that forced him off at halftime of Friday’s loss, with the team leading 2-1. Batista scored in that match, assisted by new signing from Safira FC of the UPSL Hugo Bomfim, who scored on his debut.
Midfielder Samuel Deossa and defender Avner Alves are available again after suspension, as is joint interim head coach Cesar Deossa, who will pace the sidelines with Roberto Mazzinghy. Goalkeeper Jake Wagmeister is still nursing an injury, but his replacement Jason Katz has been in impressive form.
